Swimming Pool Fence Requirements
So you’ve invested in a pool…blow up the floats and get yourself a cold one!
But wait…you are now liable for anyone who has access to your pool; whether they have permission or not.
All pool fence style regulations are intended to prevent a child from fitting through, climbing over, and crawling under the barrier surrounding your pool. Gates must be self-closing and latches are also required to be installed at a height considered to be out of reach.
New York State Pool Fence Style Checklist:
PANELS MUST BE AT LEAST 48” TALL
Spacing between pickets may not exceed 4”
Interspace between the top rail & bottom rail must be no less than 45”
Fence may only be 2” or less off the ground
ALL GATES MUST BE SELF CLOSING
All gates must open outward away from the pool
The latch handle must be located at least 54” from the bottom of the gate
